How do I print?

If you have one of the old library cards (white or tan) stop at the Technology Center help desk for your replacement card (gray) which will work with the new print system.

Once you have the new card, you will be able to print from any computer in the library, including catalog computers (the computers at the ends of the isles).

To print everything on the page in black and white, click on the PRINT icon at the top of your window. To print in color, or to print only selected text or pages, choose PRINT from the FILE menu. From here, you can select our color printer and/or choose the range of pages that you want to print.

We suggest that before you print, you click on the PRINT PREVIEW option under the FILE menu. This will show you exactly how much will print and how it will look. This will save you money. If you do not like how the print will look, feel free to ask the Technology Center associate to help you.

Once you have chosen to print, a window will pop up asking you for your library card number. This number can be found on the back of your library card under the barcode. Choose ENTER on the keyboard or click on SEND TO PRINT RELEASE STATION in order to select your print job.

How do I pay for my prints?

To pick up your print jobs from the print station (which is located near the Technology Center entrance), you will need to have money in your printing account. Money can be added using the machine on the wall, or by asking the associate at the help desk. Printing is 10 cents per page for black and white, and 25 cents per page for color.

How do I pick up my printed items?

Once you have money in your account, you can retrieve your documents from the print station at the front of the room. Touch the screen to begin, and then enter your card number. This can be done by swiping your card on the right side of the monitor, or by typing in your number on the keyboard provided. After your card number is entered, choose PROCEED on the screen. A list of all the print jobs that you have selected (within the past 2 hours) will appear. Touch the box in front of each item you would like to print so that a checkmark appears and that line is highlighted in blue. Once all of the boxes are checked, choose print and your selected items will print out for you. If you have decided that you don't want to print certain jobs, you can simply NOT select those items. After two hours, those jobs will be deleted.

What if I need to print on special paper?

First, make sure your paper is suitable for laser printers. Some papers, such as photo paper, can only be used in inkjet printers. If that is the case, you will need to see the Technology Center associate for assistance. If your paper is suitable for laser printers, then you'll just need to print the item using the bypass tray. To do this, choose PRINT from the FILE menu and choose PROPERTIES in the printing options window. On the PAPER/QUALITY tab, choose BYPASS TRAY. Proceed with your print request as normal. When you go to confirm your print job, place your paper in the printer's bypass tray and your document will print out on the paper you've selected.

Instant Messaging
How can I IM people from the Tech Center computers?

Although the Tech Center does not have traditional instant messaging programs enabled on its computers, you can go to any of the following websites that enable you to use your Yahoo!, AIM, or MSN accounts to chat (without having to download a program): www.iloveim.com, www.meebo.com, and www.ebuddy.com. If you find that the chat function is not working, make sure to disable the pop-up blocker on your browser by going to TOOLS => POP UP BLOCKER.
