Ohio eBook Project: FAQ

Available Formats

The following formats are available for check out through the Ohio eBook Project:

1. OverDrive WMA Audiobook (WMA computer/device compatibility)
2. OverDrive MP3 Audiobook (MP3 computer/device compatibility)
3. Adobe PDF eBook (PDF computer/device compatibility)
4. MobiPocket eBook (MobiPocket computer/device compatibility)
5. OverDrive Music (Music computer/device compatibility)
6. OverDrive Video (Video computer/device compatibility)

Requirements for Computer Use

In order to play these formats on your computer, you will need one of the following software packages downloaded and installed on your computer:

1. OverDrive Media Console for WMA, MP3, music and video titles
2. OverDrive Media Console for Mac for MP3 titles (using an Apple computer)
3. Adobe Reader or Adobe Digital Editions for PDF titles
4. MobiPocket Reader for MobiPocket eBook titles

Requirements for Use with Portable Devices

In order to transfer the MP3 or WMA formats to a portable device, you will need one or more of the following software packages downloaded and installed on your computer:

1. One of the software packages mentioned above
2. iTunes (if transferring to an iPod shuffle)
3. QuickTime (for Apple devices other than the iPod shuffle)
4. A compatible MP3 player or portable device

Note: The Amazon Kindle is not currently compatible with the Ohio eBook Project.

Loan Rules

1. Using your library card number, you can check out 10 Ohio eBook Project items at a time.
2. If an item you are interested in is not available for checkout, you can place your name next on the list by clicking "Join the Waiting List." When the item is available for you to checkout, you will receive an email and have 3 days to checkout the item. 
3. Downloaded eBooks and eAudiobooks are checked out for 14 days and are automatically returned to the library.
4. Downloaded Music and Videos are checked out for 7 days and are automatically returned to the library.
5. A banner will appear on your digital copy letting you know your item's due date. Because Ohio eBook Project items are automatically "returned", there are no fines associated with this service!
6. You may not renew an item through the Ohio eBook Project, but if a title is available, you can check it out as many times as you would like.

Library Resources

If you don‘t own a computer, you can use the download stations in the Media Department to view and transfer Ohio eBook Project titles to supported devices.
