Larry's passion for science and technology began when he got an amateur radio license in 1958 (K8HTC). He received a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Ohio State (1965) and the PhD from the University of Pittsburgh (1969). He did postdoctoral work in Experimental Psychology at U.C., San Diego (1969 - 1971).
He is interested in computational models of auditory signal processing, the effects of noise on hearing, and speech processing to improve telephone communications for the hearing impaired. He teaches classes in acoustics (undergraduate and graduate level), psychoacoustics, and signal detection theory, and has supervised the dissertation research of more than two dozen students. He was elected Fellow of ASHA and the Acoustical Society of America, and received the Honors of the Association from ASHA in 2004. Learn more
